Hasbro Marvel Legends Infinite Series Carnage Review

I wasn’t sure how to title this one because we’ve previously gotten a Carnage in Marvel Legends scale.  If I used the full name of “Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-Man Infinite Series Spawn of Symbiotes Carnage Review” it would just be too long.  I think by shrinking it to “Hasbro Marvel Legends Infinite Series Carnage Review” I got the point across.

As I’d mentioned we’ve had one previous Carnage figure and it was pretty bad.  Carnage has a very distinct head that was drawn by Mark Bagley.  The Toybiz release looked nothing like Bagley’s creation, and in fact looked like a clump of chewed up red gum.  The good news about this release is that the head is perfect.  They completely nailed the look.  But the head isn’t the only thing to focus on because this figure scratches all the right collector itches.  Yes, it’s that good!

Carnage comes packed with two parts for the Ultimate Green Goblin build-a-figure: the head and a fire accessory for his back.  The actual Carnage figure does not have any accessories unless you want to count the tentacles that plug into his back.  Another big improvement this figure has over the old one is all the little symbiote tentacles sticking out of the body.  Not only are the ones coming out of his back, but also his arms and legs.

The paint on the figure is good, but there are parts that could be improved.  The black parts of the body are painted on and look great.  They are all painted very crisp and are true to the comic source material.  The only problems I really had are around the mouth and eyes.  The whole body including the head is cast in red, so all the black is painted on.  The black around the mouth and eyes has some slop where you can see the red plastic underneath.  This also happens where the white eyes meet the black paint.  The good news about this is that its Carnage and you can get away with the slop because the symbiote is kind of sloppy in general.

The body seems to be the perfect size as well by not being too large or too thin.  The previous release was definitely on the slim side.  The added bulk of the body they used for this release works out perfectly for him.  Hasbro also gave him a nice set of clawed hands that actually work pretty well for grabbing other figures’ heads, or just general Carnage-type activities.

It’s hard to find much to complain about this figure.  Carnage was one figure that really needed an update and Hasbro was up to the task with this one.  I got mine for $14.99 at Target, but it looks as though that price was a mistake as they have now raised their Spider-Man Legends prices to $19.99 … bummer because I still need Jamie Foxx!  If you don’t feel like fighting the store, check out Amazon and see if they have a decent price.  Carnage is probably going to be one of the more popular ones because everyone remembers “Maximum Carnage.”  Him and Black Cat seem to be the first to go.
