Marvel Legends Superior Foes Beetle Review

Being the daughter of notorious mobster and Spider-Man villain, Tombstone, it isn’t a shock that eventually Janice Lincoln fell into a life of crime.  A couple years back I was fishing out ideas for a good comic trade to read.  A buddy of mine, Planned Banter, suggested I check out The Superior Foes of Spider-Man and I’m so glad he did.  The book chronicles Boomerang putting together a new Sinister Six (mostly to get himself out of financial troubles) including himself, Shocker, Speed Demon, Overdrive, and Beetle.  It’s a very tongue in cheek story spanning over three trades, but well worth checking out if you need a break from serious superhero affairs.

Beetle is pretty light on accessories if you don’t count her wings.  Do you count permanent attachments like wings as accessories?  As far as I’m concerned it is part of the figure even though they are removable.  So Janice includes herself and an Absorbing Man leg.  If this was a character I didn’t like I’d be a little annoyed with her pack out.  However, I love my Superior Foes and especially Beetle so I’m willing to give her a pass.

If I was to suggest additional accessories for Beetle I’d add a couple of hand options and an iPhone (or any old smartphone lookalike).  Since Speed Demon has the head of Silvermane covered there aren’t many other character specific accessories she needs.  If Overdrive or Shocker are in future waves including a framed painting of Dr Doom’s exposed face would be pretty hilarious, however.

Despite the lack of accessories they still did right by Beetle.  Her entire torso and head is an all new sculpt which captures her costume perfectly.  On top of that the paint work is simple, as she only really needs three colors, but very clean.  The wings have a great range of motion and look really nice when the light hits them at certain angles!  Unlike Wasp in the Ant-Man wave last year, I’m really not having issues getting Beetle to stand.  She has a decent pair of feet that hold a good center of balance.

What I do need to invest in, however, is a better flight stand.  This one I got with my TruForce Mega Man just isn’t cutting it anymore.  Something with a better grip would be awesome.  If anybody reading this has suggestions please let me know.

You want Beetle?  I know you do.  You know where to go!  Or if you want the whole case, preorders are here.  This wave has been great thus far, there isn’t one figure I’d say is a weak link.  Even though Beetle is light on the accessories, she is still an exciting and beautiful looking character to own.
