Hasbro Marvel Legends Cable X-Men Review

Marvel Legends X-Men Juggernaut Series Cable Review

I’m sure I am not the only one who was confused at first as to what Cable outfit Hasbro decided to go with for this Marvel Legends wave. Thankfully, after the last set of Legends hit earlier this year I subscribed to the Marvel Unlimited service, and no this isn’t some kind of paid endorsement (as much as I wish it was, I could use the cash with all these waves hitting at once). Since Legends has introduced me to characters and story lines I’m not familiar with, having an easy reference to the source material is a godsend. In this instance, I’m well aware of who Cable is and what he does, but I wasn’t sure exactly what story line this costume came from.

Marvel Unlimited to the rescue! This version of Cable is from a story line titled “Avengers: X-Sanction.” It was only a four issue arc, but I had a fun time with it. The basic synopsis is that Cable finds out that the Avengers kill or cause the death of his daughter Hope in the future, so he goes back to the past and uses their future technology against them. Oh, and his techno-organic virus is on the verge of consuming his entire body so he has about 24 hours to live. I enjoy shifty time travel books so this one was right up my alley.

Cable utilizes a very heavily modified Nuke body. His vest is not an overlay, but an actual all new upper body on a ball joint with a great range of motion. Of course, the down side of the chest being a solid piece is that he can’t go shirtless like Nuke. The head sculpt is damn near perfect! The techno-organic bits and scarred up face are beautifully sculpted and the paint is sharp and clean.

He comes packed with Juggernaut’s crotch. Yep, go ahead and drink that in mannnnnnn … Okay, anyway he also has two rifles and an ammo belt that attaches to one of them. Both of Cable’s hands are able to hold the guns with his trigger finger in the correct spot, so good job Hasbro! They are very flat guns and the way mine was placed in the tray warped it a bit which was a little disappointing.

The most damning aspect of this figure is that it probably isn’t the costume most people wanted. I’d be willing to bet that a majority were looking to either get an updated version of the Toybiz Marvel Legends Series 6 figure or a first appearance look. I’m sure if we get more X-Men waves in the coming years we will see additional Cables, so I’m not too broken up over it. A Cable and Deadpool two-pack seems like a no brainer with the character’s popularity.

The “X-Sanction” look has actually grown on me quite a bit since I got the figure in. I like it and feel like I should hunt down a Red Hulk to replace the build-a-figure I sold a few years back.

Cable is currently available for preorder on Amazon. If you want the whole wave to build Juggernaut then I’d suggest Entertainment Earth as they have great case prices with free shipping.

  1. Cool review!! I’m not sure why so many were hating on this costume when pics of the figure were released. I for one thought it looked bada$$ and like the Gears of War look to it and the storyline it came from! Cant wait to grab him an like you said a 2 Pack with DP would be a perfect way to get a different look for him. On yours is the chest ball joint loose? I keep thinking about the DCUC Orange Lantern Lex Luthor that had a similar chest joint known to break or be extremely loose. Thanks for the reviews and love the site!

    1. Thanks! Mine is not loose, it’s actually in there pretty well and feels solid. So I’m not too worried about it breaking or anything.

  2. Thanks for the review. I also wondered where this costume is from. I just bought it and I justified it because I think this is the closest I will probably get to getting a version that looks like Ultimate Cable. I also like the fingerless gloves which I haven’t seen cable wear. Thanks again

  3. Nice picks. Nice write-up. I basically bought this line because I liked enough of the figures that I figured it was worth finishing the line to get the Juggy BAF. They aren’t all my dream costumes/decos for these characters (would much prefer a Jim Lee Jean Grey and Havok, just because that’s the era I was into X-men heavily during), but Cable still looks pretty wicked. I have never been a huge fan of Liefeld’s art style, so I have no strong attachment to that original look. So, yea, this guy will do nicely, for me. Just gotta get a hair dryer after that gun to hopefully straighten out a bit. Yeesh.
