Marvel Legends X-Men Juggernaut Series Rogue Review

It all started with Rogue. Back at Hasbro’s pre New York Comic Convention party in 2015 we got our first glimpse at this wave, and it was a solitary Jim Lee Rogue with the Onslaught helmet sitting beside her. Here we are, nine months later with this wave finally being a reality and Rogue looking as good as she did when we first laid eyes upon her.

The Marvel Legends action figure line has a long storied history dating all the way back to Toybiz of figures that never quite made it out. Some figures we’ve only every seen as prototypes. Other times figures go as far as production but mysteriously just never see retail. We were supposed to get a new Rogue (in her modern costume) in the 2013 Wolverine Legends Puck build-a-figure series, but for whatever reason she got cut at the last minute. She even got as far as tooling because in the past couple years both carded samples and headless test shots have showed up on eBay, and went for huge amounts of money. My assumption was always that when we got a new X-Men wave it would include that version of Rogue.

I’ve never been glad to be so wrong! I have nothing against modern Rogue and I’d buy her in a second if ever produced. However, this was the Rogue I grew up with in the comics and cartoon. Toybiz did take a stab at this version of the character a long time ago, but it wasn’t ever really very good.

You can tell that the Marvel Legends team cared about making this one great. All of the caveats of her costume are here from the little brown jacket down to the boot cuffs that jut out from her knees. Besides the Juggernaut leg that she comes packaged with, she also includes an optional bare-skin right hand. Extra hands always get bonus points from me! The right hand as well as the yellow cuff for her glove come off and you can expose her skin-touch absorbing mutant ability.

While I absolutely love Rogue, she does have a bit of a thousand yard stare. It could be that her eyes are spaced ever-so-slightly too far apart. The issue certainly is not as bad as Misty Knight’s walleyes, however. I’m willing to let it go because the entire package with Rogue is so well done. She has a gorgeous head sculpt, and I’m interested to see if repainting the face possible fixes the dead stare. Don’t expect me to do it, however, my last attempt with Mockingbird did not go very well.

Normally this Rogue would be the highlight of any X-Men themed Marvel Legends series. However, this wave has so many much-needed redos that she has to share the spotlight with the likes of Deadpool, Wolverine, and the like. It’s crazy how getting a Wolverine in a wave is exciting again, isn’t it? I can’t praise the Marvel Legends team at Hasbro enough for this release. They really brought it and made what is easily the definitive version of this character.

I’ve got to imagine a lot of people want Rogue, especially going by current secondary market sales. The entire wave is absolutely worth getting if you care even a bit for half of these characters, and Entertainment Earth has you covered for that. Amazon does have the singles up, but I’d maybe wait til it comes back in stock since the third party prices are pretty crazy.

I’m amazed I got them all standing at the same time!

      1. Yeah, that’s what I expected! When I saw them all standing there it reminded me of the old ToyFare segment where the “Guy Whose Marvel Legeneds Keep Falling Over” would answer questions, always to be interrupted by his Marvel Legends falling over. They definitely do tend to shelf dive for some reason.

    1. Also Jim Lee Jean, but I hate the face on that one so I didn’t bother to storage dive it. At the rate that X-Men SDCC set with Psylocke keeps going up in price, I’m resigning myself to never owning it. Ah, the one that got away!
