Mattel MOTUC Horde Wraith Review

Review Advent Calendar Day 17: Mattel MOTUC Horde Wraith

With all the craziness of the holiday season I totally forgot about Mattycollector closing down, and on top of that the November subscription figures that still hadn’t shipped. I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see them sitting at my doorstep! I had figured they would ship after the new year, but this didn’t end up being the case. The Horde Wraith and Tuskador officially finish off the Collector’s Choice subscription. Now once the December figures ship and my Thundercats subscription gets sorted out I can officially say goodbye to Matty!

So who is the Horde Wraith? There are actually a few of them and they made a brief appearance in the 200x Masters of the Universe cartoon. Of course, like everything Horde they look cool as hell, so it’s a no-brainer that an action figure was eventually made! These guys were pretty much the entire reason I, once again, ordered two subscriptions to Club Collector’s Choice. Sure I’ve had to suffer through multiples of Masque, Darius, Vultak, etc that I can barely give away, but it sure was worth it for that extra Horde Wraith. Especially since they appear to be completely sold out now. I’ll just keep telling myself that, anyway … yep!

The Horde Wraith is similar to Shadow Weaver in that he technically can be displayed without his stand, but you don’t get the full experience of the figure until you put him on it. While his bottom half is static with no legs, the top is a fully articulated Masters of the Universe Classics figure. Besides the stand, he also comes packaged with a Horde themed staff. Since both of his hands are open, the only way for him to hold it is to slip his right fingers into the little blade on the side. It’s a bit odd.

The staff is also made with the softest plastic known to man. The thing came out of the package warped to shit!

One thing to look out for with this guy is to make sure to put the stand’s pegs in the correct ends. It’s best to find which part goes into the figure first, then plug into the stand. Because once you plug into the stand, it isn’t coming out without breaking. Mine also tends to lean a little bit to the right. It’s still better than my experience with Filmation Evil-Lyn … and it’s a Horde Wraith, which brings us that much closer to a Horde Mummy!

The Horde Wraith is currently sold out on Mattycollector, so it may be worth keeping an eye on Amazon if you are looking to grab him.

Final Verdict: He has some issues, but he’s still a breath of fresh air in a fairly boring/uninspiring year from the Collector’s Choice subscription, NICE!things-to-do-between-christmas-and-new-year-s-what-s-up-amsterdam-4owu6g-clipart
