Hasbro Marvel Legends GameStop Back in Black Deadpool Review

Remember the time that Deadpool merged with Peter Parker’s alien symbiote suit? No? Me neither, nice chatting, catch you next week!

For ‘Back in Black,‘ Marvel pulled the age-old trick of finding the tiniest sliver of untouched opportunity in Spider-Man’s historical timeline to tell a new story. And of course to insert Deadpool into it, because why not? The basic premise is that shortly after Peter Parker rejects the alien symbiote the first time, it skulks off and finds everyone’s favorite character, Deadpool. Shenanigans ensue.

Hasbro continues to expand the Marvel Legends brand, and Back in Black Deadpool is our first GameStop Marvel Legends Exclusive! I guess that I should clarify it’s the first six-inch exclusive, since there was a GameStop twelve-inch Deadpool released a few months ago. I still have a hard time considering anything but the six-inch line “Marvel Legends.” The Marvel Legends team at Hasbro insists that this branding isn’t confusing, but I don’t believe them.

Being a one-off exclusive, there is no build-a-figure here, but he does come with a pretty decent set of accessories. Two gripping hands, a Spider-Man ‘thwipp‘ right hand, two claw hands, two energy swords, a symbiote back attachment, and an alternate Venom-like head. First off, the right gripping hand doesn’t have the same wrist peg as the other hands, so when he holds his sword or really anything in it, it just falls limp. While he doesn’t have a place to store his swords, like other Deadpool figures, his back tentacles are able to hold them.

It’s a shame that they didn’t include a couple pistols for him. I suppose I can use some of the spares from Deadpool’s other two releases if need be. The Venom face is pretty good. We’ve seen it before on the Rhino wave’s Superior Venom. You could probably even use it as a replacement for the Superior Venom’s head if you prefer. Back in Black does not come with a scarred up Deadpool head, but if you have a spare sitting around it fits just fine.

Would I recommend Hasbro Marvel Legends Back in Black Deadpool?

I have mixed emotions on this one. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. I think that’s what makes it a decent enough exclusive, because it’s certainly nothing essential and not from a story line I’ve even followed. If it wasn’t for the wrong peg on his right hand, I’d say they at least handled the execution of the figure well. I do have some reservations over Hasbro’s increased head reuse, but I’ll get into that another time.

As far as recommendations, unless you are totally in love with this character, I wouldn’t go too far out of your way to track him down. I’d imagine he’ll be pretty plentiful at GameStop stores throughout the holiday season.

Back in Black Deadpool is available exclusively at GameStop. It’s currently not available online, but I’ve had good luck with the in-store tracking being accurate. Of course you can always check Amazon if you don’t mind the mark up (or just buy the Back in Black trade if you can’t find the figure there).

    1. Hopefully with the Deadpool wave coming early next year you should be able to come upon him pretty easily. TBH, the classic red may be my favorite one yet.
