Marvel Legends Black Panther Okoye Series Erik Killmonger Review

N’Jadaka left nothing to the imagination when he decided to change his name. Erik Killmonger is a name that certainly states his character’s intentions pretty well. Killmonger is a guy with simple goals: revenge for the death of his father, and bringing down the Wakanda government.

In the upcoming Black Panther film, Erik Killmonger is played by former Human Torch, Michael B. Jordan. From the trailers we have already seen, Jordan has a couple of interesting costumes in the movie. Unfortunately, we appear to only be getting his version of the Black Panther suit. And even worse, no unmasked head. I suppose they could include a movie Killmonger in a future two-pack or exclusive. But at this point, I feel like everything for the Black Panther movie has probably been announced. Surprises are fun, though! We’ve not heard anything about a Marvel Legends scaled MCU Shuri, Klaw, or W’Kabi either.

Obviously, I don’t expect them to flesh out the entire Black Panther cast. Hasbro usually only does select characters from each movie. However, this wave is a step in the right direction since we are actually getting the villain from the film! We’re still waiting on the likes of Mandarin, Yellowjacket, Ronan, and most importantly Taserface.

Killmonger comes packed with a set of weapons, an extra pair of hands, and Okoye’s left leg. I appreciate them including a left and right gripping hand so that he can handle both of his weapons at the same time. Besides being opposite-Black Panther, there’s a lot to love here especially the sculpt. For a $20 toy, the line work and splotches integrated into the sculpt are incredible! For the most part, Hasbro has done a great job this year with translating movie costumes to their action figure counterparts.

Would I recommend Hasbro Marvel Legends Okoye Series Erik Killmonger?

When Killmonger was first announced by Hasbro, I figured this was a cheap way to reuse the movie Black Panther sculpt. I was wrong. I was so wrong! Erik Killmonger is a 100% new sculpt, and the attention to detail on his suit is pretty incredible. I’m going to continue to harp on the unmasked head, only because he’s the only character from the film that doesn’t include one! I still recommend him. However, I’d totally recommend him so much more had he come with that one accessory that would allow me to finally create an Alex from Parenthood action figure.

Killmonger will run you around $20 and is available right now for order on Amazon. In fact, as of this publication he’s already cheaper than what I paid. Of course he is! Why do I bother buying toys on release? All I get in return is pain and regret.
