I figured I would break up all this Portal talk with some fun Masters of the Universe Classics news, rumors, and other good stuff! First off, Scott has been answering a lot of questions over at the Mattycollector forums. I think the big thorn in everyone’s side right now is the “dramatic” price increase talks. People have started to notice a lot of paint detail has been dropped lately on final products as well as the cut accessories we have seen throughout the year. When asked about the price increase:
The Horsemen tend to “overdeco” figures. Every figure in 2012 is delivering $22.00 worth of paint apps. In 2013 we are dramatically raising prices so we can afford more paint and accessories. If we wanted to deliver all the figures exactly as the 4HM painted the protos we would need to charge more and we already sold in the sub for 2012, so that is not an option. Legally we can’t raise prices on the sub after it is sold in. This is why we will start 2013 at higher prices.
A follow up on the price increase from Scott as follows:
Labor and raw material have gone up. Factors we have zero control over.
We are not making any more margin on the figures. Our margins (i.e. profit for non biz majors)are flat. Price increases are 100% because the raw cost to produce the figures has skyrocked since 2008. We could keep prices at 2008 costs, but then we would need to majorly reduce accessories and deco.
Just look at retail lines. 3 3/4 figures at retail are over 10.00 in 2012 and 6″ figures are between 16 and 20. We just can’t produce these figures for what we could in 2008 when we set prices.
We are choosing to increase prices in 2013 vs cost reduce the figures (like we had to do in 2012 removing deco and accessories). It was a tough call!
Now a lot of people for some strange reason have interpreted that statement as the prices will go up 100% taking $20 action figures to $40 next year. Since there has been no concrete confirmation, all we really can do is interpret but I feel that this statement is saying that the increases are 100% because of, not the increases are going to be 100%. I really feel people are high-balling how much Matty plans to raise the price. My honest assumption is that subscription prices will be about twenty to twenty-five percent with single figures topping out at $24 at most. While the day of sales will be about $25-$26.
The $22 prices this year for day of sales aren’t as bad as I thought they would be … I have ordered quite a few doubles already this year without even thinking twice. I think if anything, they could work on shipping solutions that work faster for the money we spend that would go a longer way. There is no reason for the two week voyage my figures take every month, just because I am on the east coast.
The one thing this has done, has distracted people from the reversed Stinkor forearms!
In some more happy news, Cornboy of the 4 Horsemen fame (not the wrestling stable) posted on twitter the following:
Off to Four Horsemen Studios to do some finish up work on a big gun, a short sword, and an android-like body/torso/head. Whatever could these be for? Sorry. Not telling. 😉
More speculation, because Scott doesn’t provide us with enough! New android-like body/torso/head sounds very exciting. The big gun could be the 200x Two-Bad accessory … but I just don’t see him coming until 2014. Short sword could be anyone, but maybe Jitsu is on the horizon!
That’s it for tonight, I’m beat.
