NECA TRU Exclusive Predator Jungle and City Hunter Two-Pack Review

Typically if you heard the news that there was a predator and Toys “R” Us you would think it was a tragedy.  TWO Predators would be even worse!  NECA believes giving Toys “R” Us two exclusive Predators in a two-pack is a great idea!  I’d be hard pressed to disagree as they took the two most iconic versions of the Predator and packed them together with some new trophy skulls at a very reasonable price.  And all of this in time for the holiday season.

NECA TRU Exclusive Jungle and Masked City Hunter Two-Pack Review

This two-pack comes with two Predators: Jungle Hunter from Predator and Masked City Hunter from Predator 2.  Both Predators have “battle damage” in green blood detailed on their body.  The Jungle Hunter only has a very minor amount of blood located on his shin.  The City Hunter has a lot more damage having spots all over his body and a removable arm.  The set also comes with two trophy skulls which you will need to collect for the eventual trophy wall NECA is attempting to make for next year.  I attempted to find a name or species to go with these two but to no avail.  So if you go to the scene in Predator 2 you are getting the dead middle and far right skulls.

If you have been collecting these figures all along (they are on wave seven for god’s sake!) then you know what to expect with these figures.  Both Predators have exceptional paint and sculpting detail, and they also have incredible articulation for such detailed figures.  They both have joints on their ankles, double knees, ball hips, hip swivel, ball shoulders, elbows, wrists with removable hands, and neck.  You can stick these guys in some great poses.  The only problem I have with the articulation is that my Jungle Hunter’s ankles started to get a little loose from posing too much.  They still have a pretty good center of gravity so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem as mine still stands fine.

You should be warned though, these are not toys to have around the kids.  They have minute details that WILL break if you drop them or put too much pressure on them.  The obvious one to watch out for is the Jungle Hunter’s face, you don’t want to end up with broken face mandibles, do you?  Of course not!  So make sure you display him in a spot he won’t take a tumble.  The City Hunter doesn’t have as much to look out for because his mask covers the face, however either way you want to make sure they don’t take too many falls.  A broken arm, leg, or even armor can ruin your day.

Sure the sculpts of these Predators are amazing, but it is the paint that really helps make them shine.  For a mass retail release the amount of paint detail is tremendous.  It does make you sit back and wonder about how much smoke we get blown up our asses about paint application costs of Masters of the Universe Classics figures.  Every line of the Predator’s body netting is painted in, sometimes the lines slightly miss the sculpted parts but that is fairly minimal, the overall presentation overshadows the minor misses.  Every detail is touched up on these guys, from the patterns on the top of their heads down to the little tiny eyes.

The Jungle Hunter has a good amount of parts strapped onto him.  It would probably be safe to say that every last detail from the movie is included on this Predator.  His shoulder mounted cannon comes loose in the box but is easily attached to his left shoulder.  He also has all of his personal trophy skulls attached to strings running across his chest and a bone necklace.  Both the Jungle and City Hunter have retractable wrist blades.  You just need to be careful when removing them from the package as the blades can get caught on the plastic and damaged … I did this to my Jungle Hunter so his blades look a little askew.

This set is a great value … that’s right something sold at Toys “R” Us is a great value.  The set is $30, so it comes out to about $15 per Predator.  This works out to a couple of dollars less than two single-packed figures.  It also gets you the two most iconic Predators in one place so this set is really good for the person jumping on for the first time.  Compare the price of this to the previous TRU Predator two-pack (which my store still had oddly enough) and you save yourself ten bucks.

This exclusive pack is a really strong showing from NECA.  This being my first Predator purchase from them I am blown away by the amount of detail and articulation they are bringing us at such a small price-point.  I also think this pack is a great send-off into the next few waves with a couple versions of Dutch on the way.  NECA has done more than anyone could have imagined with a Predator line and done it with a lot of style.  Even if you aren’t a fan of the series, the level of detail that is put into these figures is admirable and not to be missed.

You can grab the two-pack off of Toys “R” Us’ site right now!  Have it shipped to your house or pick it up in the store, doesn’t matter to me just make sure to get in on this pack.  If this set has got you interested, there is a whole selection of past Predator series to get caught up on.
