Mattel MOTUC Batros Review

Now that the drive to scare us all into buying subscriptions is over, we can just sit back and enjoy the ridiculous amount of money we are going to spend of Masters of the Universe Classics.  The Filmation subscription has been a fun little addition to the usual Club Eternia fare.  Since this subscription is focused solely on Filmation characters, we have been getting a healthy dose of some “one episode” figures we otherwise probably would not have seen in plastic.

Mattel MOTUC Batros Club Filmation Review

Batros is the third in a series of six.  The six in order of release are Icer, Shokoti, Batros, Nepthu, Sea Hawk, and Strongarm (Strong-Or due to a trademark issue).  While Batros can look a bit plain, calling him a “stupid pink guy dressed like a bat” is not giving him a fair shake.  Batros is a pretty great figure with some fun new parts.

Mattel MOTUC Batros Club Filmation Review

Yes, the evil master of theft is Batros.  He comes from a race of half-man half-bat pirates who basically function as mercenaries.  They team up with Skeletor because they really want to find the secrets of Grayskull, so naturally teaming up with the bad guys would get him that much closer.  It seems if Batros really wanted to find the secrets of Grayskull he should have hung out with He-Man and his crew.  That would be a lot easier than waiting for Skeletor to lead a charge into the Castle and hope to come upon these secrets.

While I have liked all of the figures released in the MOTUC Filmation subscription, Batros just clicked with me as the most fun.  What isn’t fun about a purple human-bat hybrid with wings on his arms?  The little wings connected to his arms make for some really fun poses.  The wings attached to the bicep/tricep section are new tools, but also the shins and feet are as well.  The pointy feet are great looking and I think they make him slightly taller.

Unfortunately Batros does not come with any “Eternian Relics” like Fang Man or Icer.  He’s probably the weakest thus far in regards to accessories.  He has a recolored Spikor mace that has a fantastic black and red paint scheme, but there is no getting around the fact that it is also just a redone weapon.  I’d imagine Mattel lost their shirts sculpting that little furry piece that goes around his neck and had no budget left for more stuff.

Mattel MOTUC Batros Club Filmation Review

August was a quiet month for Masters of the Universe Classics.  Batros was the only subscription figure, and if you do subscribe you get screwed a little because Sky High would need to be ordered separate.  Mattel still hasn’t figured out a “pile of loot” system that eases those expensive shipping costs.  If you haven’t subscribed to Club Filmation though, I suggest you consider Batros because he is a top notch figure.  He goes really well with the DKR Batman that came out earlier this year.  He also goes well with Masters of the Universe figures … crazy thought!

If you want him, I’m pretty sure he “sold out” over at Matty’s site.  You may have to grab him off Amazon, so go check them out now before the Batros Army grabs them all up.  It’s also worth mentioning that Batros rocks a harness.  Much like the cape you really don’t see people these days wearing them outside of bondage establishments.  It’s a good look for a purple human-bat thing, it should be a good look for us all.

  1. Digging the new background Jon, goes great with this Purple, bondage wearing, Man…..Bat…..Thing…. who makes bad choices (Hanging with skeletor to discover the secrets of Grayskull, C’mon man) But… He wants you to respect his life choices, or you get the mace…. Anywho great review Jon!

    1. Thanks man! It took me forever to get the new set up for my pictures, I even messed with the camera settings whole I was doing this review but I think I got it in a good place … it was definitely too bright at first. Don’t judge him because he wears a harness, what he does in his spare time is his business 😛
