Review Advent Calendar Day 6: Marvel Legends Sandman Series Shocker

Two days ago I was just lamenting over my decision to skip buying a case of the latest Spider-Man Marvel Legends wave in order to hunt them down individually. I thought Shocker would be one of the hardest figures to come upon. Well, I was wrong. A day after I discovered Symbiote Spider-Man at a local Toys ‘R’ Us, I sauntered into a Walmart (all fucked up) and came upon a single Shocker. What are the chances?

Now that I have one of the most desirable figures in the wave, I’m well on my way to completion!

Hasbro Marvel Legends Sandman BAF Series Shocker

Shocker is a LONG overdue villain for the Spider-Man line. The last time we saw him was in Toy Biz’s Spider-Man series (also I believe a Hasbro reissue), and his arms were stuck in one position to accommodate an action-feature. In that respect, an injustice has been righted. He also brings us one step close to completing the Superior Foes of Spider-Man team. All we need now is Overdrive … come on Hasbro, do it! DO IT!

Gone are the days of textured costume lines built into the sculpt. Shocker is much more simple being mostly a Bucky Cap repaint. He has a new head, new forearms, and some knee pads. He even reuses the Havoc energy effects. However none of this bugs me because it all just works well. Shocker really doesn’t require much new sculpting, and the costume lines are mostly all painted clean.

Hasbro took an interesting artistic liberty with Shocker’s head sculpt. They gave him the surprised look where one eye is squinting while the other is wide open; the facial expression Deadpool is often shown giving. This pretty much cements him as the perfect Superior Foes version of the character. If he included two open hands I could recreate the scene where he holds up Silvermane’s head … since we live in a world where a Marvel Legends Silvermane’s head actually exists. Crazy times!

You have to get Shocker. End of story. I almost feel like I should make an addendum to my Marvel Legends Top Ten List for 2016 I did a week or so back. Boy, I jumped the gun there thinking these would come out later! If you want to pick him up I’d keep an eye on Amazon, or go for the case at Entertainment Earth.
