Hasbro Marvel Legends Walgreens Fantastic Four Invisible Woman Review

For the first couple of years that Hasbro was really ramping up the Marvel Legends brand to what it is today, they left a couple of Marvel comic factions to cool off. These were specifically ones whose movie rights did not belong to Disney: X-Men and the Fantastic Four. Their omissions led to a lot of (probably not baseless) speculation that Hasbro was not, in fact, allowed to use those properties for Marvel Legends. At some point something changed in the last year as Hasbro has been very happy to showcase the X-Men as an evergreen retail line. But then what about the Fantastic Four? Both Toy Biz and Hasbro have done the Fantastic Four themed waves in the past, but they have generally been very small runs that became scarce (and then very costly on the secondary market) extremely quick.

So where could Hasbro fit Fantastic Four into the modern Marvel Legends line?

Enter Walgreens … and EB Games in Canada (I’d imagine) which is typically where those exclusives are released for our neighbors up north! The corner of happy and healthy has certainly kept collectors happy in these last few years with their extensive Marvel Legends exclusive library. While in the past they have stuck to one-off characters with no central theme, it looks as though their latest venture will be getting us the Fantastic Four team we deserve.

Sue Storm, better known as Invisible Woman is the first release in this series of exclusives, and she comes packed in a Fantastic Four themed box with H.E.R.B.I.E., a clear stand, and an additional clear left hand. I can understand how some people might be put off by her right arm being partially clear, but it really doesn’t bother me. I think it’s a great way to showcase her power without engulfing the entire figure in it. Sure, the better solution could have been to give her an alternate right arm similar to Nico, but they chose not to go that route.

Instead of an extra arm or effect parts we got H.E.R.B.I.E. Which I think is a fair trade-off because pack in characters are cool as shit! It’s a pretty nice H.E.R.B.I.E. too! The clear stand plugs into his bottom and he has a ball jointed neck. He has a great expression on his face and the body has some awesome sculpted details. I think they did a really good job with him.

Speaking of great expressions, Sue may have one of, if not the best, female facial profiles in Marvel Legends. Her head’s sculpt and paint are completely on point. She joins Silk and Kitty Pryde as having some of the most impressive female head work ever done in either Toy Biz or Hasbro’s Marvel Legends lines. Hasbro’s new process for applying paint to their figure’s faces, especially in the eyes, is really paying off in some sharp and clean work. Sue could totally go head to head with Enchantress in a smirking contest!

I’m really glad Hasbro decided to release Invisible Woman first in this series of Fantastic Four exclusives. She’s that one female in Marvel Legends that has actually been done a ton of times, but never really done right. Sure the entire team could use a redo at this point and is likely getting one, but for every past Fantastic Four release she stuck out like a sore thumb for being a sub par effort or just having a costume that didn’t match anyone else. Starting the team out with what could possibly contend as one of the best females in Marvel Legends feels like Hasbro making amends for the past.

Invisible Woman should be available at Walgreens around Spring of 2017. In preparation maybe clear out some of those Namors and Punishers still sticking around on the pegs. They are great figures too, so you won’t be sorry! It’s always worth keeping an eye on Amazon as well.
