Hasbro Marvel Legends Walgreens Fantastic Four Human Torch Review

Hasbro Marvel Legends Walgreens Fantastic Four Human Torch Review

Wow, it’s been almost a year since I first took a look at Invisible Woman from Walgreens exclusive line of Fantastic Four Marvel Legends action figures! Since we last spoke Hasbro revealed Mr Fantastic for next year, in addition to that Walgreens will also get a repaint of Medusa which should be hitting stores any time now. There has also been an unconfirmed leak of Super Skrull being a 2018 figure. So that leaves The Thing. Where are you Ben? Have you been moved? Canceled?

I have faith we’ll finally get our first peak at him come Toy Fair next year.

Johnny uses a clear version of the Bucky Cap body with some newly sculpted parts for the forearms and lower legs. He’s packed with an extra set of fists and some fire effects that can be placed over them. In addition to that, the flame effect that wraps around his neck is removable.

There could probably be an endless debate over whether to show or not show the Human Torch’s power in action figure form. There’s always the option of putting him in the blue uniform to match Sue and the rest of the Fantastic Four team without showing his power at all. Personally, I like to see him flaming, so the approach Hasbro took really is my preferred method. Not that I wouldn’t take a non-flamed Torch, but in the current comic climate I don’t expect a retread of this character any time soon.

So about that yellow head? It’s unfortunate but I think I can see where they were going with it. As far as I can tell Hasbro was attempting to taper the flame so it looked lighter towards the top of his body. Unfortunately the color change ends up being a little too abrupt being just the head and shoulder flames. Depending on where the light hits him, the effect can go from amazing to jarring very easily. If you are a late night office dweller like myself, the figure looks really good sitting in front of a computer monitor in a dark room.

Would I recommend Marvel Legends Fantastic Four Human Torch?

Um, yes!

In a world where Disney is doing their darnedest to remove the Fantastic Four from everything they can, Hasbro is delivering some of the best action figures of the team ever made. Now I wouldn’t expect variants or any of these characters to be revisited any time soon. I think Hasbro is getting one shot at the team and then they’re done. So grab yourself Sue, Human Torch, and the rest of the crew when they start hitting stores. Yellow head aside, Johnny is great.

Human Torch is an exclusive at Walgreens and can be purchased directly from their site.

If that fails, Amazon is always an option as well!

  1. I believe the effect they were going for was more this – if you notice the forearms, boots and upper torso around the neck are a darker shade of red. The head is the only part that is not the costume enflamed. So it’s more like the flesh being flamed as the rest match the idea that the different shades/colors of the costume.
