Marvel Legends Exclusive All New, All Different Black Panther Review

Marvel Legends Exclusive All New, All Different Black Panther Review

I was busy finishing out my reviews of the Okoye build-a-figure wave when all of a sudden a package from Hong Kong hit my desk. What could this be? Turned out it was just some DBZ stickers, what the hell? Then ANOTHER package showed up! Now this one had something a lot more aligned with my interests, a Marvel Legends All New, All Different Black Panther action figure. While it feels like I’m getting close to overdosing on Black Panther stuff, it’s a nice distraction from the Captain Americas and Iron Mans of the world.

This T’Challa looks to be a bit of a mystery at the moment. He was listed on the Hong Kong web store Robot Kingdom as a Walmart exclusive. However, we haven’t gotten any official confirmation of that so I didn’t want to label it prematurely. It’s not out of the ordinary for exclusives to stores like Walgreens, Target, and Walmart to end up getting separate international distribution. Sometimes, like in this case, they show up before even being officially announced in the United States. So here we are. Most likely this IS a Walmart exclusive, but again neither the store or release time frame has been confirmed.

This Black Panther is comic-based, and instead of the body they used for last year’s Walmart exclusive, they opted for the Spider-UK base. I think it’s a good choice for the character because it’s a little more bulky, but still looks agile and athletic. He has a “powered-up” paintjob with pinkish highlights all throughout his suit. There are two new heads included with the more cat-like look of the All New, All Different design. In addition to all that, Black Panther includes two fists, two open claw hands, and two pink energy effects. This release is very generous with the accessories.

I’m sure that the paint is going to be a point of contention for some collectors. His suit is lined with pinkish-purple designs from head to toe, basically in order illustrate Vibranium power flowing through the mesh of his suit. I get that collectors would want a straight black version of this character on this body-type. The inclusion of the powered-down head makes me question if we’ll ever actually get that? That seems like a release that would be perfect for a two-pack or box set, but probably not another single carded release.

However, I’d suggest giving this paint scheme a chance. It’s the main reason I sprang for this figure so early, and the paint is quite striking in person.

Oh, and I was asked if the non-pink head would work on the old Black Panther body:

It fits on the neck ball, but the head looks really big on his skinnier frame.

Would I recommend Hasbro Marvel Legends All New, All Different (Possibly Walmart Exclusive) Black Panther?

Absolutely! It’s a lovely figure and I can’t wait to buy again for $20 or so, sometime later. In my opinion, this is a much better body type for a comic Black Panther action figure. In addition to that, the cat heads are just so nice. He comes with a whole mess of accessories, so what isn’t to love here?

This advice is super ironic coming from me, but I would suggest just exercising some patience with this release. It will eventually land at whatever store it’s exclusive to and that will save you a bunch of cash over importing. Or you could just do the mental gymnastics to justify having it now. I’m not judging, collect the way you want to collect.
