While a majority of each wave for the Alien line was themed around a certain movie or franchise, Series 11 is more or less a ‘wildcard’ wave, plucking figures from different moments in the timeline. Who we ended up with is Lambert from the original Alien in her compression suit, a Xenomorph from the Dark Horse comic Aliens: Defiance, and BLUE RASPBERRY FLAVORED DRONE.

Let’s get this out of the way real fast, Blue Razz Alien is another Kenner-inspired figure. They made a blue repaint of the original Kenner warrior that was included in the Kenner AvP two pack. It’s just a blue Big Chap. If you want a new colored version of Big Chap, there ya go. I really can’t say anything else about that figure that we have already said on this site in past reviews.

I have been on record before saying that almost all of Dark Horse’s Alien and Predator comics are beyond terrible. Aliens: Defiance, in a shocking turn of events, is a great comic book. The problem with most Dark Horse books is that most Alien stories are either a one-shot or a 3 issue limited series that doesn’t give enough time for the characters to develop . Every story is usually some hackney religious allegory or “THE COMPANY WANTS TO PROFIT/MAKE MONEY OFF THE XENOMORPHS BUT OOPS!

Defiance takes place a little before the 2014 video game Alien Isolation, and has Weyland-Yutani sending former Colonial Marine, Private Zula Hendricks, and a crew of synthetics to a space station to investigate “an issue.” Hendricks is doing this mission for a chance to redeem herself for her past actions. Over a stretch of twelve issues, it gives the story plenty of time to build tension, intrigue, and actually makes you care about the characters. My only gripe is that Alien: Isolation’s very own Amanda Ripley straight up makes a cameo and basically says, “HELLO I AM AMANDA RIPLEY…….. I MUST GO NOW TO SEVASTOPOL STATION THE PLACE THAT YOU CAN EXPLORE IN ALIEN ISOLATION. FOR THE PC, XBOX ONE, AND PS4. THIS FALL IN 2014.” Even later on, the main character thanks Amanda for teaching her how to hack terminals *groan*.

But I digress, the Xenomorph designed by artist Tristan Jones is a rework of the Isolation Xenomorph from Series 6 with a brand new head. Apparently, the isolation Xeno was hard to find for a lot of people, and if you aren’t a fan of the Big Chap heads they were sporting, check this one out instead. The Defiance Xeno stands out way more than another Big Chap-like. Sadly, NECA didn’t upgrade the goofy digitigrade feet people had issues with, so good luck keeping it standing without its pack in stand.

Finally, we have the ollll’ crybaby herself: Lambert. Lambert is the crown jewel of this wave. But much like Dallas from Series 4, she is only available so far in her compression suit. Jon has already reviewed this type of figure several times over with the difference between these figures being unique heads and colors, more or less. Lambert’s heads are a work of art, and something to behold. She is mostly known for as “Panicking Woman.gif.” NECA perfectly captured her pure terror and disgusted expression upon discovering Kane with a facehugger attached to the ol’ breathing holes. She also comes with a normal calmer head but that one should go directly into the parts bin never be seen again. WHEN YOU ARE TERROR LAMBERT YOU ARE TERROR LAMBERT 4 LYFE. *cue NwO music*

FINAL SCORES:

BLUE RASPBERRY EDITION BIG CHAP: PASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO MAKE SENTAI XENO RANGERS

DEFIANCE XENO: WORTH IT IF YOU MISSED OUT ON ISOLATION XENO.

LAMBERT: SKIP BURGER KING FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND BUY HER, YOU COULD LOSE THE WEIGHT ANYWAYS AND YOU CAN THANK ME LATER.

BONUS: Also being in the Alien Club, NECA included a Kenner Space Base, which was a cardboard cutout diorama set that was only available in England. It’s super dumb but I appreciate the fact that they went out of their way to make it.

  1. I have been on record before saying that almost all of Dark Horse’s Alien and Predator comics are beyond terrible.

True enough, but Defiance is really just more of the same, with yet another half-baked ersatz Ripley protagonist that nobody attached to the franchise in any kind of writing capacity can seem to move beyond any more, another heaping helping of the sort of nasty continuity issues that made the plot of Isolation such a hot mess, and some pretty horribly lazy artwork, from a design POV (Marines who appear to have gotten lost in space while rotating back from Iraq, the xeno that NECA eventually made into a toy being just a slight variation of the Spitter xeno’s head from Colonial Marines shoehorned onto the body of the Isolation critter, and so on and so forth).
