McFarlane Toys Fortnite 7-inch Black Knight Review

McFarlane’s first wave of 7-inch Fortnite action figures consisted of four character skins from the hit video game: Cuddle Team Leader, Skull Trooper, Raptor, and the Black Knight. My first look at these figures back in December was quite an unexpectedly positive experience. Now that I own all four figures I want to take a look back at the wave with a slightly different eye. Do they still have that new toy shine, or was it all just a flash in the pan?

To answer that, for the most part, yes. I’m still very happy with the line. However, I think there are some minor cracks that are beginning to show. Overall, these figures are constructed on a good base, but I think that McFarlane Toys will have to continue to tweak that formula or these toys are going to get a bit stale.

There seems to be a bit of a “one size fits all” approach going into the build of these guys. For example, every figure’s right hand is designed to hold their pickaxe and the left has a trigger finger. I would love the ability to switch this up, so I think that including a set of each hand type would be a great improvement. The pickaxe weapons are generally thicker and tend to stretch out the trigger hands, making it hard for them to grip their weapons.

Every figure has the same articulation scheme, but Black Knight is the only one missing an ab-crunch. I’d assume it’s because they didn’t want to break up the metal plate the covers his chest. It’s still a bit unfortunate as I dislike when a figure has great arm and leg articulation, but their upper body is stuck straight as a board. The neck is slightly hindered by the bandana draped around it. They did keep the two-point neck articulation, however, which is appreciated.

Past that, Black Night is still a strong figure. The plastic quality is top notch so he feels sturdy. He also doesn’t appear to have the problem plaguing my Raptor where his arms pop out of the shoulder if I look at him wrong. The Black Knight includes a grenade launcher, shield back bling, giant fuck-off axe thing, and a figure stand.

Would I suggest McFarlane Toys Fortnite Black Knight?

While he certainly isn’t the best of the bunch, he’s still a neat looking action figure. I’d recommend him, especially if you are already into the line. All the the accessories are interchangeable, so the more the merrier!
