Yes, I’ve heard it all. Fortnite is dying. It’s is a fad. The kids are losing interest in it fast. None of that matters to me. McFarlane Toys is putting out some of the best toys on the market with their Fortnite line, and I’m here for it! I’m loving it, give me more!
Carbide, Omega, and a pair of different gliders are the newest figures to hit store shelves. If you are blessed enough to have a Walmart that received a Fortnite themed shipper, anyway. Walmart appears to have a two to three-week exclusivity to these new characters. McFarlane has said that other retailers will have them at the end of May, and Amazon’s preorders seem to confirm this as well.
Most of the skins in the game are based on something. Reaper is John Wick, Rust Lord is Star-Lord. Oddly enough, eventually both of those characters’ inspirations made it into the game officially. Carbide is about as close as Fortnite could get to creating their own Iron Man or War Machine design. He and Omega are some of the best skins in the game. And they translate very well into toy form.
Carbide comes packed with his backpack which is called the Stabilizer, a grenade launcher, the Positron Pickaxe, and a figure stand. His grenade launcher is the same one we got with the Black Knight, but everything else is new.
I had mentioned in previous reviews that the bodies were getting a little samey. So the all new build and articulation scheme Carbide uses is a breath of fresh air. While the new articulation scheme is nice, it also isn’t perfect. Carbide’s armor is bulkier than other figures in the line so this does end up getting in the way of things. For instance, his mid-abdomen joint is mostly useless with very little range. His hips are decent. You have to dig them a little into the hip overlay to open up the stance a bit.
Most importantly, he can dab! Actually, one of the placed McFarlane focused on best was the shoulder and arm joints. They really do have some great range, which is important to give action figures that carry weapons.
Would I suggest McFarlane Toys Fortnite Carbide?
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: McFarlane is not only making great toys in comparison to their own work, but they are making some of the best and most fun toys in years. I’m amazed at how well Epic Games’ designs translate to physical action figures. I hope this line goes on for years.
