Toy Fair 2016: Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics

Now that Mattel is announcing their entire year’s subscription ahead of time what could we possibly have to look forward to at Toy Fair?  Well, we got ourselves a nice handful of surprises in addition to prototypes of previously unseen subscription figures!  So even eight years into this line they can still “wow” me!  Let’s take a look and see what 2016 has in store for us.

2016 appears to be the year of villain vehicles!  We already knew Nightstalker was coming, but now we actually get to see this gigantic vehicle in all of its glory!  If you are a subscriber, Nighstalker is part of the “Collector’s Choice” subscription and will be released in May at the price of $40.  What we did not know about going into Toy Fair was Roton!  The Roton is gigantic and includes a pack-in Skelcon figure.  Matty does love to pack a figure with their off-sub vehicle releases.  I’ve skipped the Battle Ram and Talon Fighter, but there is no way I’m skipping this.

Next we have news of a couple single carded releases.  First up is that the Horde Trooper will be back!  Horde Troopers will have an off subscription single carded release later this year.  Great news for everyone who missed it, and on top of that Sunder comes with three new trooper heads.  So even if you did not miss the original release, you may need to bolster those ranks anyway.  Also the stand alone King Hsss torso is coming soon.  A production sample was shown with the other figures, and the word is that it will be a special price to subscribers.

Negative Zone He-Man was also displayed, but no indication as to how or when he is being released.

Next up we have the reveals for the rest of the “Collector’s Choice” and “Club Grayskull” collections.  If you need a list of what comes out when please check out our release and checklist that we keep us up to date as possible.  The new stuff (aka stuff we’ve only previously seen in slides) we got to see today from Collector’s choice was Despara, General Sunder, Tuskador, Horde Wraith, Tuskador, and Darius.  Vultak and Lord Masque were also present in their production form, which leaves the only unseen Collector’s Choice figure as Crita.

For the newly named Club Grayskull we have He-Man, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Clawful, Beast Man, Evil Seed, and Trap Jaw.  Evil-Lyn (missing a hand, and no it isn’t because the hand didn’t cost out!) and Clawful were the final two reveals previously unseen.  So we have officially seen the entire Club Grayskull subscription.  All figures but Lyn and Clawful were also production pieces so what you see there is what you will be getting.
